京丹後市にある屏風岩。

地層に貫入したマグマが固まった岩で、
周囲の岩石が削り取られたため現在の姿になったそう。

なんと1500万年も昔の事だそうで。。
海の京都、スケールが違います。

The rock composing the Byobu-iwa (literally “Folding-screen Rock”) was formed by the cooling of magma intruded into the volcanic ash layer, which was deposited 15 million years ago.
Because the intrusive rock was harder than the surrounding layers, Byobu-iwa formed as the surrounding layers were eroded by waves.
