Sunny Strader (@sunnystrader) has her #EyesOn the US, from the small, gritty city of Rockford, Illinois, where she spent two years as a newspaper photojournalist, to the permanent sunshine of Los Angeles, where she now works as a filmmaker’s assistant.
In Rockford, she explored communities ranging from those born and raised in housing projects to newly arrived Syrian refugees. “I was attempting to humanize groups of people who were viewed negatively by other people in the community,” the 25-year-old photographer says. Now, experimenting with a new environment on the West Coast, and a new approach to storytelling, Sunny hasn’t forgotten her time in other parts of the country. “I’m now aware of how different each person’s America is,” she says.
