#BeverlyBuchanan explored the powerful space between place and memory, with a strong, self-proclaimed connection to her identity as an African-American woman from the South. Nevertheless, Buchanan has largely been excluded from the history of art of the 1960s and 1970s. This Thursday, we bring her back into the art historical dialogue. Curator #LoweryStokesSims will reflect on her early relationship with the artist, in conversation with a younger generation that has been inspired by Buchanan’s work, on view #RuinsandRituals.
