L’installation du cratère en calice dit « Vase Borghèse » dans la salle des Caryatides (Sully, rez-de-chaussée) se poursuit : la marbrière travaille à la corniche du socle en porphyre. Le fût de porphyre vient de Rome, de la Villa Borghèse, où il a été acheté en même temps que l'œuvre en 1808 par Napoléon Ier. La corniche, en résine et poudre de marbre, est copiée sur celle du socle équivalent réalisé pour le "Silène portant Dionysos enfant" qui est exposé à proximité.

The installation of the “Borghese Vase” in the Caryatides room (Sully wing, main floor) carries on: the marble worker focuses on the cornice of the porphyry base. The porphyry block comes from the Villa Borghese in Rome. It was bought by Napoléon I in 1808 together with the antique vase. The cornice, made of resin and marble powder, is copied from the base of the statue “Silenus carrying Dionysus”, which is exhibited next to it.
