Happy birthday to Andy Warhol, born on this day in 1928! Andy Warhol’s serial images, which have become synonymous with the Pop Art movement, question the role of commodities and advertising in American culture. By recreating the Campbell’s soup can logo, Warhol produced a graphic that is void of its original context, rather than an object that represented a familiar brand. Warhol explained why he gravitated toward the soup cans, "Because I used to drink it. I used to have the same lunch every day, for twenty years, I guess, the same thing over and over again.
