#BehindTheScenes: Conservation staff member Matthew Evans performs daily rounds in #EmbracingTheContemporary, which includes one rather unusual ritual: watering a sculpture.

The center of #BruceNauman’s “Untitled (Dead Center)” (1968) has a small well drilled into two lead and steel layers. As the work is watered each day, liquid seeps in between the plates and slowly causes the artwork to corrode—fulfilling the artist’s intentions that the work deteriorate over time.
