Artist Lorraine O’Grady’s iconic 1981 performance “Mlle Bourgeoise Noire goes to the New Museum” is a landmark of identity-based institutional critique. Employing her own autobiography, O’Grady’s work often considers black female subjectivities within the social and political structures of art and the world at large. Next Thursday, O’Grady is returning to the Museum for a conversation on the experience of aging, organized as part of our ongoing #SimoneLeigh exhibition.
