If you have ever wondered what a Taiwanese blue magpie doing the goddess pose looks like, then you’re about to become a fan of Chris Counce. “I always choose the bird first,” says the 47-year-old artist behind @birdsdoingyoga, a vibrant account that features animals in various meditative states. “Based on the bird’s unique features I will pick a pose that puts the particular species in the best light.” The idea came to Chris in 2014, during his Saturday morning drawing sessions with his daughter, Finley. They first started re-creating characters from animated films before moving on to yoga-obsessed chickens, hummingbirds and everything in between. “The most rewarding thing is I get to say to my daughter, ‘Let’s do this together,’” says Chris. “If we never discovered this we would always be doing something one of us was not thrilled with.”
