From artist @hankwillisthomas as part of his takeover of our Instagram: "With the passing of #thegreatest, I've been thinking a lot about sports as a metaphor for transcendence, and about how much of the historic change that we witnessed in the 20th century came about as a result of athletes who weren't afraid to use their voices and express their humanity on the world stage. The #NBAFinals are tonight, and as I watch I'm reminded of generations of athletes, including today's, who used their celebrity and ability not just to entertain, but to draw attention to the major issues of their time and to oppose violence and oppression. I am optimistic; the road to progress is always under construction. Sometimes it's a #doubledribble, sometimes it's a #crossover, and sometimes it's a #slamdunk, as long as we don't #fadeaway."
