Monday Inspiration: We’ve all marvelled at bamboo scaffolding- flexible, earthquake resistant and, organic. But Imagine a whole city rising from a lush bamboo forest. This was is the vision presented by penda, a Chinese and Austrian design firm, at Beijing Design Week last year. By 2023, penda claims, a city housing 20,000 people could be built entirely from its modular bamboo construction system, free to grow in every direction as the need arises and using no screws or nails, but rope.
