Despite America’s abundance of coastlines, its #wind farms spin exclusively onshore -- but that’s about to change. As we celebrate #EarthDay, here’s a sneak peek at #GE’s ongoing project to build America’s first offshore windfarm located three miles off the coast of Block Island, Rhode Island. The farm will use five Haliade wind turbines, built on GE’s Pure Torque #technology and feature a six megawatt direct-drive permanent magnet generator. Fun Fact: that’s enough energy to power over 5,000 homes and save 21,000 tons of CO2 during the turbine’s lifetime. #renewable #energy
