How do you look below the surface of a painting without removing a sample? The most helpful view is often a cross-section, a slice that reveals the varnish(es) on top and each separate paint layer below. Thanks to the support of @bankofamerica, #BKMConservation was able to obtain these sliced views of #StuartDavis's The Mellow Pad without physically slicing into the painting.
