The music in Anri Sala’s ‘Ravel Ravel’ includes Maurice Ravel’s ‘Piano Concerto for the Left Hand in D’ (1929-30), a composition commissioned by Paul Wittgenstein, a pianist (and brother of philosopher, Ludwig) who lost his right hand in World War I. The hands in the video are those of two pianists who each performed the concerto with an orchestra, using scores with tempos altered by Sala. The resulting piece moves at a disorienting pace, as the two performances cascade in and out of synch. See “Anri Sala: Answer Me” through April 10. #MauriceRavel #AnriSala
