Elmo is here! Kermit is taking a break from display (very important for the long-term preservation of light-sensitive textile amphibians) but you can see Elmo in "American Stories." Elmo first appeared on "Sesame Street" in 1979, but his character didn't come together until 1984, when he became the cheerful three-and-a-half-year-old we love. Elmo will be on display through the end of July.

While visiting Elmo, be sure to bring the kids by #SparkLab and Wegmans #Wonderplace. These hands-on spaces are open every day except Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Also on view in "America Stories" are the hat and boots worn by Ray Bolger in "The Wizard of Oz." The Ruby Slippers are off display for a visit to our conservation lab.

Got questions about an upcoming visit? We're here to help! (Elmo is a gift from the family of Jim Henson.) #DCcool #FreeInDC #ThingsToDoInDC @スミソニアン博物館 #SesameStreet
