A Sunday school class in Augusta, Maine made this quilt in 1863 to give warmth and comfort to Civil War soldiers. The girls included more than 150 handwritten inscriptions, from riddles to Bibles verses, offering encouragement.

The quilt made its way to a DC hospital. It survived the war and is now in our collection.

This year, our @国立アメリカ歴史博物館 is sharing objects that illustrate how Americans have participated in their culture and democracy, working together to create change and achieve goals. #AmericaParticipates
