Photographer Noah Kalina (@noahkalina) is an explorer of the American backcountry. Kalina’s most powerful work comes from his trips outside the city and cultural centers, where his friends are suddenly lost in vast landscapes of trees, hillsides, and rivers. It’s the kind of imagery that makes you want to escape whatever’s holding you down and flee into nature with the photographer. His bestselling book “Cabin Porn” did just that, reclaiming the artistry of the rustic.
Kalina’s longest-running Instagram series is #bedmounds, in which he leaves the duvet of a bed in whatever out-of-the-way hotel or cabin he’s staying in unmade and photographs it crumpled in a heap. The form is rumpled, weird, and almost human, as if one of Kalina’s friends is crouching under it. For #GucciGram, he photographs a duvet covered in the #GGBlooms print in the center of an anonymous room. The flowers are a profusion of color, but Kalina is the only one to see it. Thankfully, he brought his followers back a picture of the moment.
