In her Weddings series, #ZaneleMuholi sets out to convey lived experiences of the South African LGBTI community presenting moments of intimacy, as well as public celebrations of love and collective and private reflections on loss and struggle. These works affirm the normalcy of LGBTI life, in keeping with Muholi’s larger goal of creating a visible presence for black lesbians that is nuanced, flexible, and multilayered.
